Convenient at home labs; No Needles; No laboratory visits
So many of us are avoiding doctor’s offices and blood draws because of COVID. Sometimes the delay in getting your labs drawn is perfectly fine but there are times that you may need to have them done sooner than later. I would like to introduce you to an option for having your levels checked through an easy blood spot testing that can be done at home. I have used blood spot testing for many years as it is a convenient way to get your testing done even when you don’t have a doctor’s order.
What is blood spot testing
Dried blood spot is a form of collection where patients place blood drops on a special card after a finger prick with a lancet. Everything you need is provided in the kit including lancet, the card, alcohol swab, etc. Once dry, blood spot cards are extremely stable for shipment and storage. Blood spot testing offers an excellent correlation with serum tests.
What can be measured through blood spot testing
Female hormones
Male hormones
Cortisol levels
Thyroid hormones
Toxic & Essential Elements: Hg(mercury), Cd(cadmium), Pb(lead), Zn(zinc), Cu(copper), Se(selenium) & Mg(magnesium)
CardioMetabolic Profile: Insulin, hsCRP, HbA1c, Cholesterol, Triglycerides, LDL, HDL & VLDL
Vitamin D
The kits contain everything that you need for collecting your sample and sending it off to the specific lab that we obtain them from. Blood spot testing is normally not covered under insurance plans but convenient collection eliminates blood draw needles, blood draw fees, and the need to see a phlebotomist. Patients can collect their samples at home at the time that is convenient for them. Research also shows that blood spot is more accurate than serum for measuring blood hormone levels in patients using topical creams and gels.
